Dollar To Peso Value and Trends

Knowing what the Philippine Peso is worth at any given point in time is of value, it tells us what our spending power is on that date.  However, to have an idea what is going to happen in the future one needs to know the historical values and also be informed about current affairs that might effect the market value of currencies and study what has happened in the past.  At least some knowledge of economics and finance is also good, the more knowledge the better.

Nothing is a perfect predictor.  Sometimes markets just don’t behave the way they should.  I am not a trader but I might be some day.  You should treat all information here as my opinion and not as fact.  While I do have a bachelor degree in Business Administration from a four year college in the US, I am an amateur, before risking your money consult a professional. Do not base any investment decisions on what is displayed here.  At the same time,  hope this information will be of use for expat finances.

I am going to attempt to provide daily highs and lows on the market.  At first just the data and hopefully later will be able to add graphs and my amateur analysis of what is going on.  I welcome all ideas and information.

Hopefully I wont miss any days and my unpaid assistant will remember to gather the data.  I have data for about ten years and I would like to get it summarized and displayed here.  That will be a pretty large job.

A quick look at the the year historical data seemed to point out that the rates of last year were lower than usual.  That the dollar is usually close to P50 than P39 which is good news to me.

For now I will start posting the information for each day by month.  I hope it will be of use to the reader.  If you have some experience with graphs and spreadsheets/databases on WordPress and know of plugins I could use to enhance the information, pleasue use the “questions” page to contact me or just leave a comment.

    Hi Rusty,

I have been interested in possible retirement in the Philippines for some time now. Just found your site(s) tonight. I still have several years until I can retire and possibly relocate to the Philippines. I was thinking some where around Cebu City so I am very happy to have run into you on the web. You mentioned that you may be interested in becoming a trader, by that did you mean a FOREX trader?

    Take care,

    Hey Rusty,

Yes, there is much learning involved in trading currency. I have been trading via a demo account now for close to a year. I did trade briefly with a live account just to see how it was in relation to a demo, it is different only in the fact your using real money. I did this on a micro account so the loss was minimal, however, the knowledge gained in risk/money management was invaluable. I have been tweaking my trading system for several months now and feel I am just about ready to try a live account again soon. I firmly believe that one must follow the current trend of the currency pair they are trading so for now I am concentrating on the four majors. The spread offered on the minor pairs such as the Philippine peso are so large it would take quite a move just to break even on a trade. If interested I would be happy to share my system with you just let me know. A site I have found very useful is forexpeacearmy.com, they have wonderful advice as well as reviews on different brokers and such.

    Have a wonderful evening,

    Craig from Michigan

    Hey Rusty,

It does take some time to follow the currency exchange. I am currently in nursing clinicals so I imagine my time is going to be mostly dedicated to that for the next several months. If you do decide to start a micro account maybe the way to go. Each pip (.0001) of a currency is on .10 u.s. cent. It allows you to learn without the risk of losing $10.00 per pip. Many brokers allow you to open a micro account for $25.00, some (FXCM) will even give you the $25.00 to start, I would recommend adding $75.00 to give a little buffer. I believe they also have accounts where a pip is only .01 u.s. cent, even better to learn trading with a live account.

    Kind regards,

Craig from Michigan (fall is already in the air here, getting into the 50s at night).
