I'm an American expat having the time of my life living in the Philippines. I'm becoming a bit of a jack of all trades. I grew up in Jackson, Ms where I graduated with a bachelors degree and a major in Accounting. Though there is no official designation of such, I have a strong educational background in finance as well. I worked as a revenue agent and computer analyst for the IRS for almost 20 years. I'm retired from that and my pension makes it possible to travel as my income goes with me. I am also a webmaster and it seems, I'm becoming a writer, kicking and screaming all the way. When it comes to proper English, I'm not so good. When it comes to putting emotion and ideas on paper, I've been told for years that I am exceptional at it. I also love photography and playing with computers which fits in well with my new lifestyle. Like I said, I'm having the time of my life in the Philippines. I look forward to exploring all of the country as well as some nearby countries.

Having spent about 18 months (05-06) in Mindanao, I concur wholeheartedly…”kanos” need to think and rethink their income situation before diving into a life in the Philippines.
Like you, I don’t discourage it, but…then starving to death isn’t a very pleasant otion either.
No jobs back here in Tupelo, either!!!!!
At least we have that pittance they disguised as “undemployment compensation”.

Hello Rusty, I have been reading your articles and find them very helpful and enlightening. I am planning to move to the Philippines in Dec and getting married to a beautiful Philipina. I still have a lot of questions and could use some advice on a lot of topics, but one of the topics that you mentioned struck my interest emediatly. You said something about getting your belongings to the Philippines. What were you talking about exactly and how did you go about it. I don’t have a lot of stuff but I would sure like to get what I do have over there. One of the things I would really like to get over there is my motorcycle but so far I have run into a lot of negative input on this idea. Is this possible or should I forget about it?
