Tambayan is Bogo City’s Expat Hangout
In the center of town, near Gaisano, you’ll find a group of expats hanging out and drinking beer at Tambayan. Locals also visit the restaurant, which is a good sign. However, I don’t go there. I’ve been once. The big draw is that it has the cheapest beer that I know of. There are also a lot of Filipina that pass by but, I’m told by the local ladies that girls that go there get a bad reputation fast. This keeps the local women from interacting much with the expats but of course, there are always exceptions.

Its not really my thing to sit around and drink beer all day and its out on the hot street so its not a favorite of mine. If you’re looking for other expats though, you’ll find them here.
You can also find a few down at Pizza Pub which is near the town plaza known as Heritage Square. Don’t get it confused with the smaller Rizal Park which is near by. One of these days I’m going to draw a map of Bogo City but my drawing abilities are not so great. I doubt my accuracy will be all that great either. 
I would like to get together with expats in Bogo City but I haven’t been able to find many of them online. I run into one now and then but they seem to disappear after that. I’m not the expat that sits around complaining about things all day long though. I also don’t drink a lot but I wont mind laughing at you if you do. I think Bogo is a great place for an expat to live. It is cheaper than many places in Cebu and close to Bantayan and Malapascua Islands. It is also a very safe place to live and none of the smog you’ll find a constant within Cebu City. There is very little crime in the Bogo City. The mayor seems to have a firm grasp on that. I’ve said it before that Bogo City has won the Cleanest and Greenest in the Philippines award several times. Best of all, the people of Bogo City are very friendly and have been very helpful to me.

Hi Rusty, I these guys mostly single or are they attached or married? Do you see the same faces there all the time? If they have a partner, how fun can it be to have their husband or boyfriend hanging out there without them? To each his own I guess… The times that I’ve visited Bogo I’ve seen foreigners in Jollibee, but mostly having a partner with them. It almost looked like a meeting they were having, but maybe they were just all there at the same time for lunch. It would be nice for you to find some like -minded expats that you could correspond or meet up with from your town. BBQ by the Bay sounds like a pleasant spot to pass the time.
Tourist often have women with them but the locals usually don’t. I don’t pay that close off attention to them though. I’ve seen white women there from time to time and that usually gets my attention because its pretty rare. I’ve only been once, took Jessie and talked to only one person. ii stayed about 10 minutes and went to the Pizza Pub. I just didn’t see the point.
I’m not sure if it is the same people, all expats look alike to me. LOL Mostly I jest but not entirely. I think most of the guys there are married to their beer. The low cost of beer I think is the main draw and I think there are a LOT of repeat visitors with a mix of nwe folks that trickle through.
I most often go to Jollibee during brownouts and I’m not the only expat that does that. They don’t usually stay for hours upon hours but I’ve been known to stay most of a day until the freaking lights come back on.
Ha ha ha…Rusty ..may I know which Jollibee meal you have grown to order? BTW, as McDo was my very 1st employer, I am loyal to it.
I don’t buy their meals. A bucket of chicken and fries. I love their fries.

I would imagine that these guys have wife or girlfriends at home. But would you want to sit there all day with your boyfriend or husband while he gets drunk, and tell old “war stories” of when he was young to his drinking buddies. To me that would be very boring to me, and very dull existence. But we have those guys and gals here too…the old “barflys”.

Good beer at that. I don’t mind hanging out with expats, even if they complain a little, we all do that but to sit out in the hot sun on the concrete, why? I don’t get it. The BBQ by the bay is cooler just being off the pavement. Not as many pretty Filipina walking by I guess. 
Even the Pizza pub would be nicer and even more Filipina and if you go inside they have aircon. 
I doubt they have girlfriends, they wouldn’t let them go out alone but a wife might. LOL
Hello Danny & Rus, No I would not want to sit with my boyfriend all day watching him guzzle beer with his friends. I think if my boyfriend says “I’m going to drink beer with my friends at the pub”, I will tell him to leave his wallet with me. And for every bottle of beer he drinks, there will be one sexy nightie paid for by him – LOL!

I like being me. I’m not one that marches to anyone else’s drummer. I’ve always been a beat out of step with the rest of the world. Life might be easier if I was more conformist but it just isn’t me.
One thing is for sure, I’m done trying to being anything other than I am.

Rose is more than welcome to read this, and most likely does. I tell her the websites I get a lot of great information about moving to the Philippines. Also, she knows I don’t enjoy drinking anymore, been there, done that, in my younger days. As far as Victoria Secrets is concerned, that is one shopping trip I will be happy to accompany Rose on..and help her pick things out too…lol.

I’m not sure its that much of a deterient here. Such a normal thing to see. Often from Filipino and even from women. Though usually only young unmarried women and you don’t see women with them stacked up like that in most cases but I do see it, I’ve taken some of them to the disco….. With Jessie, of course.
Just for the record, I never said a word about these guys having girls or wives at home.

Hi Christine! I think they are dressed for the occassion. Nothing like white men in sandos drinking beer in some bars that can catch attention of the locals who are most likely the ones who are over dressed. LOL.

Well, there are a lot, that might give someone the wrong impression. But a lot of places do not have aircon, some place to eat don’t have them. I don’t go to those except down at the bay where it is in the open and a breeze. Even there it gets hot. I never go when the suns up.
Different world here, women are attracted by white skin but you can’t hold on to them with that. Its what’s inside they look for, thank God as I ain’t got much to offer on the outside.

Bogo City might seem safe enough, but I would still be cautious. Is Mr. Matinez still Mayor? I can tell you one thing, a fairly well off and well know native of the error and I had lunch in Cebu just before the last election cycle. Seems that the Govenor of Cebu personally requested the he run for Mayor of Bogo, he declined stating that he wanted to keep on living.
I’ve heard some phenominal rumors and I would watch my butt, the leadership in Bogo, San Remigo and certain other township and barangays have such bad reputations I decided not to live there.

I know most expats behave respectfully but some sadly do not, one case of such a expat is Gordon “Gordy” Elletson claims to be from Texas and posts on the internet under nic TEXKANO. Anyway this loser lives in CDO Philippines and hit a young child , one Xavier Madlangbayan from Iligan City, with a walking cane and then typed a full confession on his forum boasting of his accomplishment. The boys grandfather ,Dr. Severino Madlangbayan, is filing charges against the fake Texan coward and hopefully the loser will face justice this Nov. 20th

I and several others have been the target of the Gordon Elletson for several years. The confession Mike posted one just one of two he made. The wording would run about the same so you would not care to post it. He gave the PNP the wrong address, the family was never notified and did not follow-up but guess what happened? Gordon Elletson had to make all these bragging type post on his two ADULT Yahoo Groups and on his website. The child’s family saw it, the father, a Doctor running for political office, and the mother, a professor at the University in Iligan and they were not happy. So Gordon Elletson, TEXKANO, the self proclaimed child lover, with his own big mouth, has brought all these problems back on himself. Gordy had a court date Nov. 20 but only his attorney was there for him. Arguments were made to re-open the case but the judge decided to delay to review documents. I believe these documents were confessions made, a picture of 10 year old girls taken in just their bra and panties, some other pictures and other negative post. The family will notify me of the next court date.

This whole thing started last March when Gordy hit a child at a US Embassy Outreach. Child abuse charges were filled but Gordy gave the wrong address and the family did not follow-up. Sometime later, Gordy made post all over the net bragging about what he did and making some derogatory comments about the child and family. The family saw what he was writing, thus are trying to re-instate charges. This is a prominent family, the father a doctor, the mother a professor at a Iligan University. They tell me if charges are not re-opened, other charges of slander will be filled. This thing would have gone away except for the big mouth of one person. So it stands now with a judge pondering his decision.

Sadly though Gordon Elletson lives in a economicaly depressed neighborhood and I fear his neighbors do not use the internet on a regular basis. All we get from this article is: ” Look at me guys! I am not like those drunkards I don’t go to bars like this, neither these guys are my acquaintances”…
But you’re the only blog owner who refused to post my comments on these dangerous criminals living in the Philippines, accusations that are backed mostly from their own writings ,statements and police records. Without ever saying “look at me, I have never been a pedophile”.

I can understand about not wanting to get involved with the mess that Gordy (texkano) created for himself. I am a supporter of Evan and his desire to expose and bring to justice the many undesirables that seem to make the Philippines their home. My belief is that many expats are running from something in their home country, so head to the Philippines to hide, and eventually continue with their bad habits.
There are many expats that come across as wanting to be helpful and caring, but their previous life comes back to haunt them. These people want to be in the public view, then complain when the dirt is exposed on them. They can’t have it both ways. There are several people that have associated with very undesirables that have exploited filipinas, and then run web forums that appear to promote the Philippines, but are only a front to promote their agenda. They have been exposed, some have fled the Philippines to avoid prosecution, others have been asked to leave, and others are sitting in jail.
Is there anything wrong to expose these undesirables for what they really are? I say “No”.
I thank you for allowing Evan to respond, and hope that you will continue to publish his comments. He was very instrumental in getting one VERY sick Aussie to flee the Philippines, when he exposed this guy’s criminal and perverted activities so that everyone could see that he was not the good guy he was trying to portray himself as. Interesting to note is the same individuals that always seem to come to support their “friends” when the light is directed towards these cockroaches.
The laws in the Philippines on libel and slander make it hard to expose these creeps, because even if the allegations are proven to be true, it is a criminal act to libel or slander someone.
Trust me, you would be very surprised with the type of individuals that are making the Philippines their home, and continuing with their perverted ways.
One good example is the recent arrest of Perry McNeely in Cebu, along with 2 of his buddies.
Is this what we want to have Filipinos view foreigners as? It doesn’t take too much imagination for Filipinos to see reports in the papers and then go to a local mall and see these creeps with girls that are barely legal hanging all over them, to think that most foreigners may just be like that.
I will end this for now, but just again want to say that supporting Evan in what he is trying to accomplish can only benefit foreigners that are in the Philippines for the good. The more bad examples that are exposed and brought to justice can only promote the foreigners that are there for good reasons.

I’ve seen people trashed on the internet when there was not a shred off truth to it. People say something and it evolves and the event get distorted beyond any thing that is even close to the truth.
Evan attacked me and threatened to put me on his site because he thought I refused to post his message. I had not read his message. I came very close to deleting his message because off that. However, I allowed it on the site because it exposes him and it exposes what it take for him to go after someone.
Threatening me is never a smart thing to do. I don’t take it too well.
I’ve allowed his site to be posted and re-posted on this site and I’m not going to do that for him any more. I may delete all the post on this thread because of his threat.

Ok, I haven’t been on this thread for a while, so I just spent some time trying to catch up. It seems like everybody really has already said pretty much about the topic already, so I guess I’m just absently typing at this point. If anything comes to mind, I’ll surely post it.
I am waiting to reply to these three questionable gents (Justin Arledge, Evan the Terrible and Brad Hughes (or JEB)) who are also Mike and Mike62 (sock puppets), none of whom were there, at the “incident”.
Cowards usually have 2-3 sock-puppets to back their play and then a troll or two to stir the brew.

I have left this topic open so you could respond. I’m sorry I have been remiss in approving comments. I have missed a lot of them. For some reason, I’ve not been getting the emails of pending message. I will resume checking every day. I do have some ideas for articles to write. So I will attempt to resume doing that too.
Gordy, if these emails floating around are from you, they sure don’t put you in a favorable light. ON the other hand, much of what I’ve seen was between consenting adults, so I say, SO WHAT! That’s just me though, I tend to not try to tell others how they should live. I realize I have a board in my own eye and it blocks my vision so that I’m just not qualified. Some others need to humble themselves and do like wise.
The main reason this guy is posting his links is to increase his Google Rating. Its a common tactic, first post something that makes people mad, then post your links on other sites to increase your ranking. The problem is this, it doesn’t work. Google is smart enough to know the website owner is doing it (they track these things) and it takes tens of thousands of links to make any real impact. If he puts Google advertising on that site, they will ban him.
To everyone else, I will not post links the website of the wall of shame website. He attacked me, he threatened me and he has no credibility to me. These guys are artists (they think). They’ll take a header and write what they want then claim it’s all true.

These are also the brave souls that attack an elderly woman (Daisy Cline) who is the president of the cities Expats Ladies Charities, Inc.. These women do good work and help the malnourished kids. Yet, you read all sorts of made up crap and lies by these three mental midgets – Evan Iliadis, Justin Arledge and Bradley Hughes.
Evan lives in France and has never been to Cagayan de Oro and has never met any of the people he attacks. Justin lives in some hole in Arizona and has never met any of the people he attacks except Mike Farrell. Brad Hughes lives here and is an outcast. He has no expat nor pinoy friends.
I know why they hate me. I had the audacity of kicking them off my Free Yahoo Group because of their negativity. They got their little feelings hurt and now it’s an all out attack from these upstanding Men (?).
I will not come on your, or any other forum, and neither say I am a saint nor bash those three stooges. I have done many things wrong, purposely and accidentally. The difference being, I have admitted and made apologies.
I can take many of their personal, threatening emails and change words, keep the headers and say they wrote it. I choose not to use their tactics. Honestly, reading their junk speaks for themselves. Tells everybody what kind of people they are. I don’t need to input anything as they do it all on their own. You’ve already seen it. Disagree with them and you are next on their chopping block.
Their purpose? One has a “Hero Complex” and is so blinded by it that he is doing exactly the opposite of what he wants to do. The other is a bi-polar alcoholic. Now, I’m also an alcoholic – sober since 1991. I have two sisters that are bi-polar, yet act nothing like this person. Difference being, they actually TAKE their medications. Justin doesn’t.
The third one, Bradley Hughes, is a follower. He don’t like me so follows these other two and when they lie, he tells a bigger lie just to be in their favour. Check out Evans garbage site, they’ve kicked poor old Bradley to the curb.
Remember the days of Peyton Place? Yep, it’s a lot like that. When I take the “me” out of it, it’s amusing and entertaining to watch, but at the end, shut the TV off as it’s just another case of bad acting.

You sent me an email? I didn’t get it. Seems my emails have not been very reliable lately. I changed my email address just now as I found this and several other post that I was not aware of. Some quite amusing.
I don’t think the chimpanzee remark was a very wise thing to say since its often used as a racial slur.
The hero thing, its just a symptom of a personality disorder. They don’t make meds for that. I have been a victim of something I’ve seen on the web. If someone says something about you on the web, its true. Doesn’t matter how far away from the truth it is, its just true and then yes, expanded upon. Nearly anyone that finds themselves in a leadership position on the web will at some point, probably several points, find they too are a victim of the same.
I think I do remember you now, from Paul’s site. Might have even met you. Did you go on one of the monthly boat trips the expats in Cebu sometimes put together? I went on one. Was fun. If I had more energy, I’d like to do the same in Bogo.

Lazy. Actually, two things, it became a lot of pressure to write something every day or trying too anyway. I didn’t want this to be pressure.
I quite smoking in September, the first attempt at several tries. I replaced smoking with playing Second Life and got addicted to that.
i think i’ve actually quit smoking now. Don’t really want too but its making me sick, after a few days of smoking my lungs hurt too bad to do it. Sucks cause I like it. Might have something to do with my be lazy though. Actually, I’m sure of it. For me walking and smoking didn’t mix. Going to try to return to my walks this evening. After the sun goes down. Gonna be hard though, my foot so swollen wearing socks is not going to work. Gonna be a very short walk to start.

If you Google,”Gordon Elletson, Philippines”, you will see a link he wrote about his life’s story. It’s a sad thing to read about an abused child who spent most of his life in the bottle. He wanted to go to Nam, he says he wanted to die in Nam, he could have gone but choose not to. He has some resentment about me being a Nam Vet. My wife and I went to a couple of Expat functions but she was insulted by one of the local drunks so we decided no more. I have not seen or talked to Gordy for over two years and have only met him twice. I have talked with him a total of about 5 minutes in person. I have stayed away from any Group he has been on. To hear it from him, he can tell you all about me and my life here. The people he hangs with, I do not. I’ve been here since 2002, happily married for 5 years with 2 boys. Gordy hit a child at Pryce Plaza then went about bragging about it and confessing to it all over the net. His problems are of his own making.
He has no idea who my friends are or anything about my life, which is a very happy one.

We already have contact with Chad, who seems to be a nice man, and it seems Gordon not only abused him but also his mother. I think history has repeated itself in Cagayan de Oro Philippines as Gordons self caught up with him in CDO.
